Dennis settled in the rugged back-country of the Arkansas Ozarks in 1977, and soon thereafter immersed himself in the local musical cultures. He learned the traditional songs and styles by joining in local jam sessions-which often lasted into the wee hours. In 1982, Dennis taught himself to play the hammered dulcimer and worked out arrangements for the many pieces he had earlier committed to memory.
Dennis continues to expand his repertoire. He has extensively studied in the Bluegrass and Country program at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. He is a frequent performer in Branson Missouri during the fall season, and he tours regularly in the upper midwestern states during the summer months.
In addition to the hammered dulcimer, Dennis' recordings feature Mandolin, Guitar, Bowed Psaltry, Banjo, Fiddle, Penny Whistle and Bodhran.
